The Pool at Talking Stick Resort Customers Reviews
Not as impressive as I hoped it would be.
Ann Wilson opened the concert and she would have likely provides a more stellar headline show. She was amazing, well worth the ticket price. Jeff Beck put on a decent show, and it was enjoyable. ZZ TOP was fair to middlin, I hoped it would have been much more star worthy.
The beer prices where the most costly of the entire event. With beer prices like that, I may skip the next 5 or 6 events, even if I'm interested in attending.
Ann Wilson earned a Five 5+.
Jeff Beck earned a Four 4.
ZZ Top earned a Four 4., mainly because their show was too short.
However, considering every entertainer was a septillion, they all performed better than their younger counter parts like Alan Jackson who is worn out, tired.
Bought ZZTop Tix, Then Their Time Was Cut to 1/3
We bought ZZTop tickets far in advance in order to hear them play favorites from their 50years. Ten days prior to the event, 2 other singers were added to the bill with practically no explanation or promotion. We were surprised 72yr old Ann Wilson was picked as the 6:30pm solo warm up act, but fortunately, she still has her beautiful, big booming voice & we enjoyed how she perfectly replicated her old hits. But instead of speaking with the crowd & sharing news of her solo career, she launched straight into her top hits while sitting on stage until the end, when she walked off without a word. The choice to include 78yr old Jeff Beck as 8:45pm second warm-up fell flat & dispelled all of the enthusiasm Ann Wilson had pumped into the crowd. He was getting heckled from the crowd for his boring stage presence which lasted an hour too long. Beck neither spoke a word about his new tour with Johnny Depp the next week nor made any effort to connect with the hot & sweaty Texas audience, who were impatiently waiting on Houston home boys ZZTop. Needless to say, 72yr old Billy Gibbons & his bandmates' rowdy arrival on stage at 9:30pm put everybody on their feet, where they stayed for the next hour & one encore. It just wasn't enough time for the only group of the night we had really wanted to see.
Waited 50 years!
For various reasons I had never been able to see ZZ Top. I am now been able to take it off my bucket list. ZZ Top was the best of themselves. It is a bummer now that when you attend a concert, particularly rock and roll, that you are unable to dance. These guys get my feet tapping and my body moving. Grooving in your seat is just not the same as standing up and letting your body go to the groove (within reason lol). The first time I experienced this was the Tina Turner return from Europe farewell concert in Portland Maine. The bouncers were so intense you couldn't even stand up let alone dance. Finally couldn't take it any longer, turn to the people behind me and said sorry I got to do this, but within less than a minute the bouncer was right there pointing his finger downward telling me to sit down. The people behind me patted me on my shoulder and said good try, glad you at least had your moment. I just don't understand how you can go to these concerts and not be allowed to appreciate the music. I'm not at the opera I'm at a rock and roll concert. ZZ Top, you're the best.
